The best way to protect yourself from lead is to identify sources of lead and have them tested. A Lead Inspection Kit is a good tool to determine if you have lead hazards in your home. Each kit contains supples and instructions for taking up to 8 samples of dust, soil, and paint, and also two water samples - a first draw and a purge sample to be tested for lead. The kit with supplies is free. Just return payment for analysis along with your samples. Use our order form to order your test kits through the mail. It is very important that you read the instruction booklet that comes with your test kit first, before taking any samples, and that you complete the questionnaire and include it along with analysis payment when sending your samples in the padded mailer. |

What you
can do now to Protect your Family: * If you rent, notify your landlord of peeling or chipping paint. * Clean
up paint chips immediately, using a dust mask, then wash your hands thoroughly. * Clean up floors, window frames, window sills and other surfaces weekly. Use a mop or sponge with warm water and a general all-purpose cleaner or a cleaner made specifically for lead. REMEMBER: NEVER MIX AMMONIA AND BLEACH PRODUCTS TOGETHER SINCE THEY CAN FORM A DANGEROUS GAS. * Thoroughly rinse sponges and mop head after cleaning dirty or dusty areas. * Wash children's hands often, especially before they eat and before nap time and bed time. * Keep play areas clean. Wash bottles, pacifiers, toys, and stuffed animals regularly. * Keep children from chewing window sills or other painted surfaces. * Clean or remove shoes before entering your home to avoid tracking in lead from soil. * Make sure your children eat nutritious, low-fat meals high in iron and calcium, such as spinach and low-fat dairy products. Children with good diets absorb less lead. This helpful tips and more can be found here. |
